We received a total of 59 entries from Japan and overseas for the 11th International Fragrant Rose Trials. With intense heat in early spring followed by heavy rains in summer and throughout Autumn, this year the climate was particularly harsh on the trial roses. Despite these conditions, there were many roses with excellent fragrances this year and we were able present three Gold Awards, three Silver Awards, three Bronze Awards, and the Nagaoka City Mayor's Award, to a total of 10 prizewinning varieties.

The highest overall score was awarded to Flowerdecorater Nagashima, Gold Award winner in the Floribunda category and winner of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Award. It has a modern damask fragrance described as "a damask fragrance with a hint of anise on a refreshing apple and hyacinth green base blended with a honey-like sweetness."
