The 1st International Fragrant Rose Trial in Echigo Hillside Park, Nagaoka Japan
Award-winning Entries
Every year, exhibitors from not only Japan but across the world are invited to take part in the trials with their new varieties of fragrant rose. The first trials held in 2005 attracted 14 exhibitors in all, comprising 10 participants from Japan and 4 from abroad (France, Denmark and Hungary), showcasing a total of 33 different varieties.
These roses were judged and the award ceremony was held at the Fragrance Rose Garden in Echigo Hillside Park on October 14,2007.
The President of the World Federation of Rose Societies, Dr. Gérald Meylan, and the Public Relations Secretary of the French Interior Ministry and Gardening Journalist, Ms. Nicole Boschung, were invited as guests via the Visit Japan Campaign (VJC)* in commemoration of this inaugural event.

The Visit Japan Campaign by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is currently in progress to encourage
greater numbers of foreign tourists to Japan.
